Daddy’s Divas (2022) Series Review
One thing’s for sure.
In the future, David Tittone will have something good and funny to share with his daughters and son. They will laugh together at the silliness, making fun of themselves and others, and showing the world family comes first in every project. It feels as if Tittone took this to heart and made an endearing show out of it. Sure, it jumps the shark constantly, but it’s exactly how a show of this format and style works. If it’s for laughs, then everything’s worth trying, right?
Daddy’s Divas tells the story of Michael Hill’s life when trying to survive fatherhood after his wife passes away. Michael has three small daughters, and two of them are very mischievous. The other one behaves better because she still wears diapers and is only a few months old. But this isn’t the only issue in Michael’s messed-up life: his family, from his mother to his sister, are only fuel to the fire of misfortunes he has to deal with everyday.
However, it seems there’s always a place for love again in Michael’s life. Sort of. His neighborhood, surroundings, and even social life are flooded with bad luck and funny characters who become essential to the sitcom-like daily events the Hill family must face.
Tittone has made the most sitcom show there is. Nothing makes sense from a narrative perspective and every episode of season 1 represents a blank canvas for Michael. He’s been very literal when portraying the adventures of a family that thrives on the funny angle and never for once goes for drama. If we consider the beginning of it all as a tragedy, it’s more nonsensical.
Nevertheless, it doesn’t matter. Tittone wrote the show with his father and they have both come up with many anecdotes to share in the future. If they get lucky, perhaps Daddy’s Divas may have a follow up. In any case, it’s a show to have fun with. Pay no mind to performances or logic. This is one made with passion by a group of contenders without experience in the field.
The show has its moments of course. Michael McQuary’s presence in playing many characters is hilarious to say the least. You can’t ask for more of an actor who basically represents the funny punchline and mock every time he shows up. He and Dawn Linneman, who plays Michael’s mother in the show, steal every scene they’re in.
Only running for 10 episodes (and with each one lasting about 20 minutes), season 1 of Daddy’s Divas is a nice enough representation of a good idea that’s only possible with the collaboration of those who believe in a funny product that will have some engagement. If this happens, we can assure season 2 will be better.
