July Rising Hits Amazon and Tubi
July Rising tells the story of a young woman fighting to keep hold of a farm she felt was hers to inherit, in a community where women were typically expected to graduate into traditionally domestic roles. Her exploration of her own agency, and possibly a life beyond the farm that raised her, galvanizes her beyond her means.
The film was shown at a number of festivals across America including the Sonoma Valley International Film Festival and Vero Beach Film Festival, and has since found a home on Tubi and Amazon thanks to Glass House Distribution.
Michael Ridley, who stars in the film told us, “This was a really special one to make. The film exercised the muscles of all involved in terms of making the best possible film with the precious resources we had.”
The film was most definitely a collaborative effort. During shooting, the actors and crew members alike learned and leaned on one another to tell the story of the film: about the love of the land and deciding who they want to be. Not only that but the team also had to overcome a number of obsticles including wildfire smoke, forklifts that wouldn’t and wasps in a pear bin.
Writer, director and producer Chauncey Crail tells us, “July Rising is about learning to straddle both worlds, to be honest with our deepest selves, the people we have yet to discover. Andy struggles to cope with the loss of her grandfather, rebels against her new guardian, fights the bank and labors to keep her family’s legacy intact. Andy’s journey visits environmental conservation, equal opportunity for women, stewardship of rural lands, food pathways and urban:rural conflict. The threats to Andy’s way of life ensure that her ultimate struggle remains internal–with her future self. As our society tackles today’s critical issues, we all must look inside ourselves for answers.”
